Our Story


We opened our doors in 1993 as a dream come true business venture, with the purchase of Alan Quinn Photo Pharmacy. Back in those days, much of our business centered on traditional photography with cameras, support equipment, processing film and dispensing pharmaceuticals.
As Tauranga grew so did we and in 1998, made our first expansion to double the size of our shop. Three years later in 2001 we did it again.
As we continue to grow, we have remained committed to providing friendly customer service by qualified staff in all areas of our store, while offering a broad range of today’s most wanted services and products to our valued customers.
​Fast-forward to today and product wise, much has changed. Most notably the shift to healthier life styles, alternative medicines including herbal, beauty and personal care products. Many of your healthcare needs can be resolved by one of our four main departments, beauty, natural health, dispensary and personal care.
Our mission remains the same as it did years ago when we first started, and that is to exceed the expectations of our customers whilst providing you with competitively priced prescriptions, medications, natural health and modern day products .

Dispensary

John's Photo Pharmacy is open everyday and equipped with a full dispensary of all pharmaceuticals available in New Zealand ready to service all your pharmaceutical needs. From prescription medication to over the counter products, our fully qualified and experienced Pharmacists are available to discuss any questions that you have about your medicines and answer any healthcare questions that might pop up. Our service complies with all aspects of the Code of Health & Disability Services Consumer Rights.​

Feeling under the weather lately? Talk to our pharmacy assistants to determine the cause and get the proper treatment specific for you.

Photolab

Our experienced photolab technicians can help you print photos instantly from your mobile phone and also from the more traditional photography capture methods such as slides and negatives. All of our prints go through a high quality Epsom dry lab printer manually controlled by our technicians in order to achieve the best colour balance and contrast to make your photo print the best it possibly can be.
Our other services include:
  • Passport photos - Online application? Postal application? Whats a JPEG?  Internal affairs and immigration have very strict guidelines when it comes to passport/visa photos. Allow us to take your photo and crop and scale it to ensure it perfectly meets the requirements of your photo needs. We also have an excellent set up for babies and toddlers who need passport/visa photos done.
  • Self service photo kiosks - Our photolab technicians will guide you through these quick and easy to use machines for those who need instant prints.
  • Development of 35mm films (Tuesday and Thursday only) - 3 day service.
  • Photo restorations - We take pride in restoring your damaged photos to their former glory. Bring in your photos and we'll work with you to restore them as best as possible.  
  • Images scanned off slides
  • Expert advice on enlargements and sizing images
